Each piece begins with the letters of a name. I use a system I developed that maps letters of the alphabet onto musical notes. This gives me the raw material — a unique sequence of notes based on the name you choose.
From there, I shape it into a short piano composition: harmonizing, arranging, and giving it musical form. The result is a piece that feels complete and beautiful while still being directly connected to the chosen name.
(For the musically curious: I use two different mappings, one diatonic and one chromatic. I choose whichever gives me the most satisfying result.)
My name is Jorn Swart, I’m a pianist and composer based in New York City. My solo piano project Doeke has reached over 22 million streams on Spotify and was nominated for a Libera Award for Best Classical Record in both 2023 and 2024. How will I receive my song?
You’ll receive a high-quality audio file by email. If you selected add-ons, you’ll also get a performance video link and/or a PDF of the sheet music. Delivery is within 7–14 days after payment. You can gift the composition by sharing the link, printing and framing the sheet music, or in any way you choose.
Can I add a note or dedication?
Yes, you can include a short subtitle or note with your request (for example, “For Emma’s Birthday” or “To Sarah, with love”). This will appear as a subtitle on the sheet music if you order the PDF, and I can also mention it in the delivery email or video title card.
Can I release my song on Spotify or use it commercially?
No, your song is for personal use only. It cannot be released on streaming platforms or used for monetization, licensing, or royalties.
Can I share my song online?
Yes, you’re welcome to share your song on your personal social media accounts with credit to me, but you can’t monetize it.
How do I pay?
After you submit your request, I’ll review it and send you a quote. If approved, you’ll receive an invoice through PayPal. Once the invoice is paid, I’ll begin composing your piece.
Do I need a PayPal account?
No, PayPal accepts all major credit and debit cards, even if you don’t have a PayPal account.
What if my request is declined?
I may decline any request at my discretion. If so, no payment will be collected.
Do I get revisions?
No revisions are included. Each song is a unique artistic interpretation.
Is there a limit on the name length?
Yes — names are limited to 20 characters.
